German Gebirgs Marine
Battle of Narvik, Norway 1940

During the naval attack on
the Narvik Harbour the whole german
fleet present were sunk. Several
hundred German sailors abandoned
their sinking ships and managed to get
ashore, where they linked up with
Gebirgsgeneral Dietl's forces. They
were quickly issued with Norwegian
Army uniforms, equipments and
weapons from a captured depot.
These sailors were put into action as
mountain troops against British, Polish
and Norwegian forces in the cold
mountains around Narvik City.
